We are completely restructuring the
AR reward program to better level the playing field for the students and therefore increasing their desire to read. Instead of rewarding the students based on points, we will reward them based on their reading comprehension. Their level of comprehension is determined by the percentage of correct answers on
their AR tests. By using a percentage-based system, all of Farmington’s
students, no matter what their reading level, will have the same chance at rewards.
Students will be able to test in month long blocks before their comprehension scores are determined. We will still recognize student points as described below.
Breakdown of AR Prize Levels
85% Level
The students that have an average of
at least 85% correct on the AR test for the month will receive a coupon for free ice cream or a free kid’s meal. Five students will be selected at random from each grade level for either the monthly
$3 bookstore coupon drawing or a stuffed Falcon Spirit Toy.
95% Level
The students that have an average of
at least 95% correct on the AR test for the month will receive a coupon for free ice cream or a free kid’s meal. Five students will be selected at random from each grade level for the monthly Malco
ticket drawing.
Point Club
There will also be 4 Point Clubs: 50
Point Club, 100 Point Club, 250 Point Club, and 500 Point Club. The students
that reach each point level will have their name written on a card and placed on the Point Club posters in the library hallway.
Traveling Trophy
The classroom from each grade level
that has the highest reading comprehension percentage for the month will receive the AR Trophy. All of the trophy winning classes will have their picture taken with the trophy. The class pictures will be put on display in the library hallway.
Top Point Earners
The two students that earned the highest
number of points from each grade level will be recognized at the end of the year with a medallion. The student with the highest number of points overall will be recognized with a trophy.
